One of this boards members bought this from Dr. Deuce today. It was one he helped participate in the Rescue of (see previous post) over the summer.

It is a former State of New Hampshire Forestry unit. Don't let the looks fool you it is a very restorable candidate. It was completely undercoated and only has minor spots where it has rusted through.

John is a great restorer and should be able to turn this gem into a beautiful piece. And this Air Corps refueler will even be painted yellow...the way it should be.

Here are some other interesting pictures I took today.

I have the original Yellow GI paint for your tanker, compliments of 42 CCKW, he has been saving it for you.

The F-3 is my favorite CCKW model, it's beautiful.

Ok Here it goes ,I think its 8) and will make a real nice project for John when time and money allow. Its great that a rare truck is going to be saved, one you don't see at mv meets and I am sure John will do it right he has more guts than me because between all my mv and tractor projects I'm getting pooped out to say nothing about going broke  anyway look at the brite side John can always start a home heating oil business

Knowing John, It will look quite nice when done. :D

Don't let its appearance fool you. Like Bill said, it needs one running board and some rust repair. It is very complete, more than the one I am keeping :( and the "custom roof and doors saved it even more. It will take a lot of work, but she will be a beauty when done! :P

Besides, it paid for the shipment of the ACKWX-353 I bought

Yes, it's ROUGH!!!, but it does have it's redeeming qualities, after all it's a CCKW 8)
From the data plate this is the F-3's smaller cousin the L-2
This will be my first venture into "airfeild " equipment, but I 'm looking forward to the learning experience.
I'm also looking forward to the "yellow " paint

Cheers

PS My neighbors were saddened to see me off loading this beauty today ,however :P :P ( they sat in their car watching, with their hands over their faces in disgust ) I made sure to smile and wave proudly  knowing this was a KODAK moment :)

A heating oil business would sure help to pay for parts

John,

A couple of Quick Black stars on either side (because of the yellow paint) would signify that is a Historic US Military Vehicle.

It is easy to then turn the tide and start throwing around the history destroyer and book burner question.

They always back down from that.

John
Don't worry about Joel he is just jealous its not his truck, If it were He would drive it over to the former Dow field hanger and dream about filling up B-17s with it , thats his favorite spot ,he takes his CCKW there all the time  I go there when I'm in the area and watch all the planes comming and going , lots of ww2 history there. I have driven in and found Joel sitting in his truck watching the planes ,we sat in his truck for hours as he tells me about the history of the base with all the planes landing and refueling probably buy a CCKW tanker just like yours  before being flown off to war. GI Joe he is a walking history buff . Me I wasn't around for the ww2 stuff I only remember the B52's.

The F-1/L-2 would be my next choice of CCKW, they have the potential for much history because of the aircraft they serviced. The manual for the tanker is Army Air Force only, and will not be easy to find. It is not a TM, but a TO.
I am going to donate my friend Jim to the project.

Thanks Guys

I fully intend to "pick your brains clean" concerning this project. :)
Since the vehicle now resides in Maine ( and not northern Mass. Jim  ) itis only right that I restore it to represent a support vehicle from Dow Air Base. When the time comes I'm sure you will be able to assist me with unit markings :D
Thanks

John, If you run into storage problems I've got 20 acres you can use. My Paint horses share it with several Dodge 3/4 ton carcasses now and I'm sure a CCKW or two wouldn't bother them. Of course, there is the distance issue. Consider yourself lucky, I think it will be one hell of a CCKW example when finished.
