Why is everybody obsessed with colour ?

Its to do with cut, pleats (darts) and buttons. I wonder if he's wearing Corcorans too?

I'd put him on a fizzer anyway. Incorrectly dressed.

Jack the gear shown is a 43 jacket, 1937 mustard wool trousers, with what should be leggings dismounted and rough out boots. The kit here is being worn by a Century Division infantry man, and represents late war period, thro the winter of 44 to early 45.

Typical of clothing worn in the Vosges campaign, .....good winter kit. The impression looks typical of the stereotypical GI, but he would have had a lighter weight, but similar looking, M41 jacket in place of the 43.

M41 is shorter and has shoulder pleats, with side adjusting buttons on the waist.

Rather depends on the period you're looking too portray, and whether you intend to encompass R.B.Express in your plans.

Sure...Blame the other guy....

In looking at Signal Corps pictures of the period a mix of all uniforms up to the time can be seen in them all. You even see some infantry wearing "Tanker" jackets.

Degsy, yes there has, and the cover layout is slightly different, with the bottom right hand monotone having changed.

Regretably there still appears to be some small errors in the new print too.

No book seems to be perfect but I don't claim to be any sort of expert so probably wouldn't know about or notice tiny errors.

I just like looking at the pictures

I believe the original picture...back at the beginning of the thread was from a US reenactment of a winter 44/45 campaign (taken in the winter of 2004/2005). It was submitted by somebody last summer.

This clothing thing has turned out to be a very interesting thread. I have learned alot

It is a fascinating subject when you start to look into it but all the hard and fast rules which are trotted out by one person usually seem to be disproved by somebody else,part of the reason for this is because there were exemptions for special operational purposes and also because in the ETO soldiers 'acquired' by various means whatever they found to be most practical or useful. When troops landed on the continent they were equipped to a set standard but the longer they were there and the less issue kit they tended to have, it was only if a formal kit inspection was scheduled that a frantic hunt could sometimes ensue to try to turn up enough kit to pass muster.

I've just learned that the GMC pictured on this picture of the week belongs to a friend of mine: Thierry Becker.

What you DON'T know about the picture is that I paid the GI to distract the driver.. then while they posed for the camera I tried to sneak off with the spare tire carrier.

But alas, I had an incorrect POST WAR wrench.. and the farby police carted me off.
