Hello again from indiana...
well, it has been nearly 18 months since I introduced myself and bought my first CCKW. This jimmy did not have a engine when and wheels locked up along with many other issues needing attention in order to get her back among the living. I finally got to drive it for the first time yesterday! Thanks to Ron Leatherman of Military Vehicle Restoration for the outstanding work and knowledge it took to do this. Everything mechanically is restored as originally built and now cosmetic restoration will begin this summer.

yes, the truck was returned in 1980 and stored by previous owner. The French Army really took care of this truck with minor replacement pieces of course. All of the guages are metric and need replaced and the floor of the bed in rotted out..good project.
will keep you updated

French CCKW Markings
Mark,
Since you still can read the French marking on the truck, you should be able to get some history on your truck from this web site:
http://plaque.free.fr/f_mil2e.html
It explains the what and where from the French number. The bumper number is not a "license" but is more like the military registration identification.
Nice truck. Glad we saved another one.
Keep them Rolling

Hello Cat Man
Thanks for the information! If I'm understanding it correctly on the webpage ....the numbers on my bumber 237 0698 tell me
Membership Gendarmie
Year Rebuilt 1963
Type of Vehicle Lorrie, Tractor, etc (over 3500kg)
I do have form 97. This is the US Goverment form used when a vehicle is transfered from US property to civilan use. It is dated 1979 released from lend lease and returned back to the US. Also tells me the town in France the jimmy was in when released.
Original Serial # tells me this CCKW was built March 1944

Hi Mark
I'm envious of you with that wooden bed
It appears to be a 2 plank( side boards) as opposed to the 3 plank sides.
Do you know which version came first?
Nice ride
John

Hello oldreliable9_47
I'd would like to get lot of zoom pictures of the bed of you're cckw. You can put it here, or mail me, will you? I would like to get technical detail of the wooden bed of a cckw.
