Hello from Missouri!

Post by alkasishke »

Hello everyone. Just found this forum a while back and have been reading everything with great interest. I live in the St. Louis area and although I do not own a CCKW currently, I would like to find one in the future. I grew up with GMC's and currently own a 1939 GMC 1/2 Ton Pickup and 2 1949 GMC 970 Series Tandem 6-71 Diesel Powered Tractors.

I grew up driving a couple of closed cab CCKW's when I was a kid. My Dad and Grandfather were in the oil business drilling and producing. During WWII they would scour the countryside of Oklahoma and Kansas for old farm trucks they could use, since no new trucks were being sold to the public. Following WWII they bought an entire used car lot of CCKW's....48 to be exact. Took the beds off the trucks, fabricated headache racks and oil field beds and moved the winches from the front bumper to the bed. They were then sent to the paint shop to be painted gray over black with the Coralena Oil Company decals on the doors.

Over time these were sold off, but even in the mid '60's we had one with an oil field bed and one with a pulling unit mounted on it. Eventually my Dad sold the company and the trucks. I'm sure there are still a few of these sitting around OK & KS, but I haven't seen one of our old units in many years.

I am currently talking with another member of this forum from Missouri who has a nice looking CCKW for sale. Hopefully we can come to a deal and I will get back in the game. These trucks are so nice and a great piece of history. I look forward to interaction with others on this post in the future. Thanks, Al Kasishke

Welcome Aboard Al. Greg Bates , over in Blackwater Mo. has a nice CCKW for sale at present. It is listed on this site. I was up there in March to pick up a Ben Hur trailer from him and had the opportunity to see the truck. Although it has an M series bed on it, it is in great condition and runs really well.
Good luck in your quest.

Thanks Armydriver. I am going to look at Greg's truck later this month. It does look nice in the pictures. Hopefully we can help each other out and give this truck a new home!
