cckw on ebay that i was curious about

This area is for ebay, Craigslist, GSA, Government Liquication or other auctions. It should include auctions for WWII trucks, parts, trailers, and directly related equipment and accessories, for CCKW, Chevrolet 1.5 ton, US-6, M5-6, DUKW, and WWII trucks larger than 2.5 ton vehicles only.

cckw on ebay that i was curious about

Post by Nick Bombini »

Hello everyone,
gtbpappy on the g503.com forums posted his cckw on ebay. I posted on the g503 on his post about how I need to finish my GPW's(well, really my brother's) resoration before I can get a cckw. I was looking at his truck on ebay and it is no doubt a nice truck and a good price. I have been talking about it with my dad and we could potentially buy it. I wanted to know what you guys thought of it first because I am not as knowledeable about them as you guys. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... AMEWA%3AIT
What is the max that we should bid on the truck. Shipping is a factor for me too. The truck is in CO and I live in Central CA. The truck had a buy it now price of $2,995 before someone placd a bid on it. I really can't go much more than that if I was able to get it and the shipping was reasonable. Those are all factors for me. What are your opinions?

Hi Nick,

Nice looking truck which would clean up ok, but my observations are the rear bed appears to be later model (M series?). The cab will have to be disassembled as there is rust between body panels (common on open cab gmc's, but repairable (I'm doing mine now).
Probably a new set of tyres are required, but in my opinion would make a good first buy as it is all there and these are getting harder to find in this condition. Sorry I can't comment on value for money as I'm not in the market for one, but if you broke down the individual parts and priced them separately you would get a fright.
My only other advice is if its meant to be you will own it soon
Good luck and keep us posted.

Cheers Brent Delaney,

Wellington, New Zealand.

Nick,

My observations (for motor pool type restoration)

It will need 10 tires to look right and be safe. Figure about $1500 including shipping.

Sounds like it needs brakes. About $1100 for rebuilt wheel cylinders and master cylinder from White Post.

Misc. Tune up stuff. $150.

Paint and stripper. $500. To have someone sandblast add $2500+

The seller is a very reputable person and the truck is in nice shape for being 60 years old. You don't usually see them in this good a condition for sale.

Looks like a good buy if you can handle the reconditioning expenses.

You have to look at the total cost rather than just the purchase price.

Shipping is heading towards $2.50 per mile.

Good Luck!

That truck could be a really nice vehicle once restored. It is a lot better shape than mine was when I started on it. There is a lot to work with there that is positive. good luck

Thank you all for the help. I have been reading all of the advice and suggestions that everyone posts on here and if I get this truck or another one, I know it will all come in handy.

Chris, will you be at Tower Park?

Yes, I'll be going to Tower. If the new roof is finished on my shop by the end of the week, I can finish my Amphibious Craft Repair Unit CCKW. We'll be there Sunday the 17th to setup camp, and convoy up from Chowchilla Monday morning. I'm trying to bring the DUKW up on a lowboy with my WC-62.

That truck would have been an excellant buy at $4000.00-$5000.00, it has all the makings of a good restoration, the cab rust is very minor and could be easily repaired. Servicing the brakes, (replacing the Wheel Cylinders, Master Cylinder, Hoses and Hydrovac) is a MUST on any CCKW, as there is 12,000lbs to stop, antique insurance may not be a given if the insurer finds out that the brakes were insufficient. Many insurance companies trust that the antique vehicle is restored to safe operating condition. The Cargo Body is a late composite CCKW body with wood floors, note the bolt pattern on the steel sides. An M-Series body would not have been flush with the fuel Tank, there would have been an overhang.
