M26 Tank Recovery Vehicle

Post by MotorpoolMac »

I just found an M26 Tank Recovery Vehicle. It is the un-armored version and has some body damage and rusting in the sheet metal, the fifth wheel is missing and the frame is kind of crunched between the winches and the rear axles where they picked it up with a big grapple. But other than that it is all there and even has a few decent tires on it.

They are going to chop it up for scrap if I don’t get it. Is this something anyone might be interested in or know someone how would be?

Thanks!

Does it still have the winches?

It seems to me that someone from Liberty Auto Restorations in Iowa was looking for a parts truck...

I'll do some digging and see if I can find who was looking for one. I am almost certain that it was some one here in the midwest...

I found the message, and have PM'ed the person who was looking.

Pictures of this vehicle would be something I'd be very interested in.
Is it still there? Any chance of this?

Hi everyone, sorry i have not updated ya'll on this truck. I ended up getting this one myself. I broke my boom truck trying to move it! hehe
It is here at my lot in Rapid City SD. I have plans to fix it up, but if anyone is interested let me know, id sell it the price was right. There are a couple photos on my webpage:

Well done

I've always wanted one of those, there was even one for sale in the south of the UK last year, but no funds and no way to deal with it.

If I ran across one in that condition I'd grab it anyway, so well done for getting that one out of harms way.

That is NOT the vehicle to have when you start the conversation.... "Honey look what I bought..."

Well that all depends on what kind of a woman she is and how dedicated a wife she is.
I'm not married yet but my father and I bought this truck together and it is at their place. We have a lot of tired iron filling up her yard and she thinks it is great, because that is what my Dad thinks is great. Praise God!
