I never thought i would dump so much $$$$ into a truck and not have her road worthy yet! I still have a long way to go..the breaks and tires are looking me in the face.....$$$.. im only 30....i can wait some more i geuss

They certainly are a "money pit" for the amount of time we drive them.

Still would not trade in the "thrill" of it for anything

Don't get discouraged. Back when I found my first WWII jeep, I actually had it 14 years(!) before I could afford to start the restoration on it. I had accumulated a few parts over the years but would continue to haul it to new living quarters with each move. Starting a family, getting larger homes as the family grew, paying back student loans, buying into a business, etc all contributed to moving the restoration back and back.
Eventually when I could start, it made it all the sweeter to be finally making progress on it. The CCKW is so much larger that every step is more costly and difficult but it will be worth it to you tenfold in enjoyment. Your young son will have many memories of being around and riding in "a real Army truck"! HAng in there, it will be worth it!
