CCKW in the movies, Mummy III

Post by Colin Britton »

I gave my wife a girls day off so she could go out with a friend and do "stuff girls do" yesterday.
One of the things she did was see the MummyIII with Brandon Frazier and she came home all excited to tell me that there is a fairly long chase scene when Frazier is chasing the mummy. The mummy in in a phantom horse drawn carrage and Frazier is chasing him thru the city in a Open Cab CCKW. My wife said there is a excellent side view during the chase and "The truck in the movie is just like your's"!!!
The only thing she said is different is there are no military markings and either it is a dark green or grey in color not OD.
I have not seen the movie yet so I cant verify if its a CCKW but my wife knows my CCKW well enough to know one in a movie if she saw one.
Just thought I would share this Hollywood CCKW spotting.
ATW,
Doc Britton.

Hey Dock. Oops, I mean Doc. I am still thinking about Bill's party boat. Are you sharing the fact that the movie has a CCKW or the fact that your wife knew what it was? I would go with the later. She sure sounds like a keeper to me. Women like that are hard to find.
Cheers,
Barry

Movie GMC

Post by Colin Britton »

Barry,

Yeah I gotta agree with you.... If you watch the Youtube video of my M20 recovery you will hear her comments on the new toy arriving..... The link is in the Larger that CCKW section..... She drew alot of fans from the "G" site for the comment.
And as for breaking down split rims....... Ahhh, no but she does support my hobby/affliction and never hassles me about a purchase. And was wanting me to by the M20 the day I discovered it.

I was flipping thru the channels on the TV yesterday and on AMC there was an old Chuck Norris film "The Delta Force". There was a long scene of a fight on a CCKW similiar to that fight scene in "Raiders of the Lost Ark".
Lousy movie but cool seeing a CCKW in the movies. I just hope they didn't blow it up later in the movie!

I remember a scene from the movie "The Bridge at Remagen". Several GMCs racing along a road to reach the bridge. One of the Jimmys turning over and crashing.
Looks like in 1969 these trucks could easily be bought for a few bucks and blown up just for fun.

Regards,

Chris

Here's a link to a movie site that a good resource for finding vehicles in film's this page is for CCKW's in films there is a large group of unidentifed photo's of vehicles as well so check out the site and enjoy .
http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles_make-GMC_ ... W+353.html

Yes sadly CCKW's and lots of other's were indeed cheap in the 60's and 70's and not much interest at that time in saving and restoring MV's and many of the ones used in the films that were torched or blown up werent runners that only had to look like a good vehicle or like the aircraft in Pearl Harbor along the flight line were mock up's with electric motors to spin the props some plywood and bits lots of det. cord

That movie database missed the CCKW movie of all time: Red Ball Express! Talk about CCKWs in a movie!

Move CCKW's

Post by Colin Britton »

Great site.... I was not aware of how many movies the CCKW was in even in fairly recent movies other than B.O.B, and not trally military movies. I'll have to keep my eyes open....

Thank You for posting the Movie Clip of the "Red Ball Express" the movie has not been released on DVD and the VHS was only released back in the late 70's and sold out and is not available . I wish they would solve what ever legal issues they have and re-release it again .

Your welcome , Glad I was able to share a site that other have found of interest .

The second scene is from "Top Secret"
