Gasoline Prices

Post by Chappers »

Note: Gasoline costs are a viable topic. I have split it off to here so that neither the pillow block topic nor fuel costs get diluted. The Admin

About $3.39 as of today at 6.5 mpg with the 302 engine and not too many hills and not towing anything. About 5.9 mpg towing the searchlight trailer with the dozer (9,400 lbs) in it... :)

1liter costs 1.55 Euro
1.55 Euro = 2.45 Dollar
1 Gallon = 3,8 liter

3.8 x 1,55 Euro = 5.89 Euro
5.89 Euro = 9.34 Dollar for a Gallon

Hope the math is ok.

Gasoline Prices

Post by Cat Man »

I think the fuel cost is relative to were we live.

In Europe gasoline or petrol is much higher than in the US. The good news is that the distances to various HMV events are much closer in Europe. Dense population centers.

We pay less for gas (petrol) here in the US but we have to drive MUCH further to get to a show. In the US it is much more difficult to get a large HMV turnout at a show because we are so spread out. I'll drive the CCKW 80 or 100 Miles one way to get to a show.

I travel for business. I often drive my auto 4 hours to my first customer of the day. Two customer calls in one day is a big day! I'm on a first name basis with the hotel clerks. But I can drive across Holland - border to border in under four hours! I talk to my sales counterparts at the Caterpillar dealer in Holland and they laugh at me and tell me they are home with family every night.

So we all pay to play.

Gasoline here in San Antonio is around $3.50 this AM. Makes our hobby a little more expensive than it used to be but it is all relative. For all the years I was in the Confederate Air Force our fuel costs on the big engined aircraft was costly, even at those prices back then but the end results of seeing the faces of those that had the opportunity to walk up and touch a B25 and the sounds and smells of those historic aircraft made the sacrifices worth it. Our trucks are just as important and to be able to demonstrate history is worth the costs.
Have a great week all. :D

I got 7.5 mpg the other day (including a 5 mile parade in 2nd low range) with the big 302 partially because I was following a 1.5 ton Chevy on the highway and he could only go about 40 mph instead of my usual 45-50 which causes my nominal 6.5 mpg.

I guess we will all be more selective in what events we go to this year :(

Where we live in Canada gas is $4.80 per US gallon. (converted). I drive 200 km or 120 miles each day to work and back. Janet does the same but
her Nissan is better on fuel than my Chev. truck. The bill at the end of the week really stings.
