Yes, I knew Rick. He and I both went into with our platoons in the same flight that day. He was quite a fellow, a true hero all the way. He received the Presidental Medal of Freedom for his actions on 9-11.
He, like so many others from the original 7th have gone to rest now.

There is a memorial to Rick in Hayle in Cornwall where he was from.

I came across this old post - Ric used to be the head of security of my company. A real nice guy and friend of my Fathers. I see you were a platoon leader - what rank were you at Ia Drang? Have you ever attended the reunions? I have a few buddies that have and they said it was very interesting to meet the guys.
