Fourth of July in Texas

Post by armydriver »

Only the hardy needed to appear as the rain came down but we still celebrated our Nations history in glorious style regardless. Old Bob Talbot, a Marine purple Heart receipient from the battle of Tarawa and myself headed out in old Betty Boop pulling my new Ben Hur , complete with a simulated load for the ten mile trip. We were pretty close to the front of the parade and all was well until about ten minutes before the parade and the skies opened. Regardless we proceeded and were greeted by hundreds of patriotic Texans waving flags while huddled under umbrellas.
It was a true soaking adventure. What one learns is that in an open cab CCKW you still get wet. Water runs off of the top and down your left arm. The ride back home was uneventful but we had fun. Just like two old soldiers we are, we had the opportunity to play in the rain in a WWII truck.
What a happy fourth of July. :D
