Nijmeegen Bridge

Here are some pictures of what the Nijmeegen Bridge looks like today.

I am standing right at the edge of the road on the north bank where members of the 82nd AB made their cross water approach in collapseable canvas boats to the north end to attack the Germans guarding the bridge. It was felt that a river crossing would yield less losses than trying to make a; charge across the bridge. Losses were very heavy.
