New CCKW Book By David Doyle Available

Post by Cat Man »

I received word today that David Doyle has completed and released the two long awaited new GMC books. Both the CCKW and the DUKW books are now in print and will be available at the MVPA convention in Portland OR.

The books are titled GMC CCKW TRUCK IN U.S. SERVICE. Hard bound 504 pages with over 1200 photos. The other is the companion DUKW volume at about 300+ pages.

David has spent years gathering the data and photo's. Including new material from the GMC corporate archive.

These look good. More information on how to order when we get it. I won't be at the convention so someone please get us more information and a good review when you see the books.

I ordered the books on the 4th and they arrived today.

A quick peak and I was overwhelmed. Great never before seen info for the CCKW enthusiast.

It is going to take some time to go through it.

Thank you Mr. Doyle for your efforts!

Hi Jeff,
Sorry to hear you won't be at the convention - please drop me an email, mine to you don't seem to be getting through.

For those in Europe - the European distributor for this book is ADH:

http://adhpublishing.com/shop/store/pro ... hard-back/

The link above is for the DUKW book - I suspect the similar CCKW page will be up in a few days.

I do not know if they are offering a similar package deal, but I'd expect the shipping to be much less.

Thank you for your kind words all of you. These two books have been a major undertaking, spanning a decade.

Sincerely,
David

UPDATE: 4 hours later.

I have now gotten into the book and I can not say enough about how good this book is. Excellent sharp, detailed photos from the WWII period. Perfect for modellers and others looking to make their vehicle look in-theater authentic. In fact there are great pics of other classes of vehicles, trailers, encampments, searchlights :) , that I have not seen anywhere else.

I can't say enough good stuff about this book. A must for every WWII HMV collector.

It is going to take me weeks to get through the 500 pages.

Enjoy

Bill

Just received my copy yesterday. I have been reading it almost non-stop since then. I am nearly mesmerized - like when I get a new Tom Clancy novel.. :D

This work is totally AWESOME!! I just can not believe how many photos are in this book - almost all of which I have never seen before. There must be at least 50 pics taken just from truck plants showing CCKWs in various stages of assembly.

David Doyle, you must have camped out in the GM archives for months in order to gather this much information on the CCKW. Your hard work and attention to detail really shows through. Excellent job!!

Best Regards...

Bob
