CCKW airfeld firefighting vehicle ?

Post by gwb »

Hello!

The enclosed pictures shows probably a CCKW airfield fire fighting vehicle.

The source of the picture is unkown.

Unfortunately I did not find any information about this vehicle.

Could anyone please help to identify this truck and maybe supply additional information?

Many thanks in advance!

Best Regards
Guenter

I do not believe this was an "official" Army spec build thus it has no official class number.

Looks like a well done custom setup using the engine and pump (Dodge I-6 and Hale 500 gpm Pump) off a class 1000 fire fighting trailer. The water tank could be off a Chevy class fire fighting truck.

Looks like Gloss paint, on the wheels anyway. Unable to tell what the building is in the background. What Theater was this from? Could be post war.

The picture of this vehicle was purchased from the estate of a soldier that served with the Corps of Engineers in the Pacific Theater. Bill is most correct, the vehicle was not a part of the Army Fire Apparatus Class System established first, by the QMC and continued by the COE when they took over Fire Protection in Dec 41. The truck was built on a CCKW chassis, with a 500 gpm, probably the Class 1100 pumping unit and the body fabricated by the COE. Research indicates the vehicle was used by the 1225th Engineer Fire Fighting Platoon. The platoon acquired the vehicle in New Guinea, September 1944 before moving to the Phillippine Islands. In addition to the 500 gpm pump, the fire truck carried 1000 gallons of water and 2000 feet of 2 1/2 in hose. The truck also carried a portable monitor pipe.

Hello,

Thank you very much for the answer and the identification of the vehicle.
This also on behalf of Mr. Renner who is researching military firefighting vehicles for the Bavarian Army Museum.

So my suggestion regarding Europe was wrong.
