cckw markings

Post by tanker »

I am just finishing up restoration of a short-bed, hard-cab cckw with winch & m37 mount. Serial number 35252920B1. The hood had body work so I could not recover any registration numbers. I was wondering if there is any correlation between usa hood numbers & frame numbers? I was able to recover a red rectangle with yellow ordnance bomb off the tailgate. Was wondering whether this is a WWII marking & what it indicates for the truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated in marking up my truck.

If I am not mistaken, there is a thin book out there on CCKWs and it talks about the military contracts, the type of trucks and hood numbers. I think it has serial number ranges and what the hood numbers were - but I can't recall the exact specifics or if this book would help you out. I will check my stash of books this weekend and see if I have a copy.

Hi Tanker
I looked up your ser # in GMC trucks at war and it looks to be
contract W-398-QM-10250 government registration numbers 473806
thu 475305, vehicle symbol 12AM, number of vehicles on this contract is 1355.

This matches a 1941 cckw352 B1. the TM number is 10-1146.
Your reg# is between 473806 and 475305. If you can find TM10-1146 you can find your exact number.

Thanks for the help. As for the ordnance marking is that WII or later? And would that apply to an ammo truck, or an ordnance supply vehicle? As soon as I finish up the stock racks, I'll post some photographs. Thanks, again.
