Prototype Dump truck

Post by Niklas »

Hello,

Is there any information on what happened to the first prototype 353 Tipper? I have located something that might be a really early 353-H1. It has closed cab, 4 digit chassi number, old type carb, rubber floor mat, rubber accelerator pedal, add on BO drive light. Any thoughts?

Sounds like a real time-wrap...any truck with a four digit number is a real surviver. Do You think the cargo bed is original, is there a tag? A picture would be great! I have a CCKWX Maintenance manual, but of course it doesn't go into prototypes.

Hello,

I will post some partial photos but I will not put up any of the whole truck since it is not mine and I haven´t been able to contact the owner lately and get a permission. I have tried to buy it a couple of years ago but he was reluctant to sell it. The sad thing is that it parked out in the open subjected to the elements. I have seen it deteriorate for five years now.... It is still in pretty good condition but the brakes are gone, and there seems to be some kind of fuel system problem. A couple of years more and the engine will be seized...

I will get back later with some photos.

I have had some more time to examine the truck and found some strange things. It appears to have two serial #. One on the side of the frame in front of the wheel and one is on the frame behind the wheel. The front one is "27XX" and the rear is "CCKW-353392XXXH1". The registration number is stamped on the top of the right frame member and it is "4476341". So is this a regular dump truck that happened to get a early closed cab and a lot of other early features during a rebuild or is it a early prototype that has been renumbered, taken into duty and then shipped to Norway?
