Hi, haven't checked milweb, but saw one closed-cab L2 on ebay, it was most interesting. That truck had Hercules hydraulics, like mine - we dismantled my Norwegian L2 for sandblasting and found one great big brass Hercules data plate riveted to a sub frame cross member close to the hydraulic ram. No year, just number & type. Found the Betlehem Steel legend on another piece of angle iron under the bed.

I tend to think these L2 dump beds and hoists are US made; perhaps they were conversion kits to turn normal 353 chassis into dump trucks. I still can't narrow down their date of manufacture, clearly 1944-1952, but that's all.

Hello Cornelis,

nice to hear about another winchless dump truck. Are there any hints about the builder of Your dump body? European/US? Is the truck still with closed cab? Are You located in mainland Europe?

Athur,

My GMC has still the hard cab with the civil dash meters.
Also does this GMC have the bracked on the chassis for the early brake system, but is not installed.

About the hercules tipper i dont know much.

The chassis number is 22503 L1

I do know that there where 3 bilders for tippers, Heil Carwood and hercules.

Do you have the copy`s of Army motors where the hole story is written about the GMC.
I also have the book GMC trucks at War, there is also a story about the GMC L1

Regards
Cornelis
