CCKW VIN NUMBER QUESTION

Post by Harold Frazee »

I have a CCKW 353 delivery date 10-42.The Vin # is CCKW353 185254-2.Shouldnt there be a letter before the -2 indicating body type?

Hi Harold,
Wondered about this too as my bolster truck has no body type either. I think it indicates a chassis/cab product which then went to a specialist body maker for completion. What has it got on the back?

It has no bed right now,The data plate on the fire wall says cargo truck,But that is just standard print on the plate,It is not stamped in.I was told by the previous owner it was once a water tanker.

As previously posted "cab and chassis" did not have a "letter" prior to the 1 or 2 ( Timkin, Banjo axles )
Most like;ly your truck would have had a "specialty " body in it's original configuration.

Hope this helps

My 1945 open cab CCKW is stamped exactly the same way "-2". This means we have a chassis only produced vehicle. My Jimmy received a cargo bed shortly after the war, made in Germany for the US Army by C.Blumhardt.
