I have realized that there are only two types of CCKW Owners, those who store their Canvas Water Bucket on their 5 Gallon GI Can, and those who don't. What we do have in common is a fondness for the CCKW. If one ever served with the Maine national Guard, you would pick up on a few French words that were frequently used. The GI Can was called "Bidon" (little tank), and you would hear the word "Par Shock" (bumper). From now on I will use these words to carry on with my proud Maine Heritage.

I commented once that the Canvas Bucket was a "Monkey See, Monkey Do" thing, and set a record for busted bubbles. You can't tell me that all who practice it, have researched the reason it hangs in that popular location. I don't have a Canvas Bucket, but have fun figuring out why so many others do.

When I was a kid, it was a Fox Tail on the radio antenna. Up north they used a "Horsey" for a hood Ornament, down South the Hillbillys used "Gooses". In Kentucky they say "Gooses", not Geese.

Joel, I don't have one on my bidon, in fact I don't have one. They are so small they get kind of lost on a large truck. Question, if you have a water can full of water why do you need a water bucket? Who wants to pour muddy grass filled water in their radiator?

I think the water buckets were alot like the rope on jeep bumper,you rarely ever see them on period pictures of actual combat vehicles,but they sure look good on a restored vehicle. All that mud and grass would make a good stop leak. I've used creek/mud puddle water on many occations, just make sure you clean it out afterward.
