Fire Truck has arrived. ID question?

Post by SpookyDad »

I went and got my fire truck over the weekend.

Behind the red paint on the frame over the right wheel is:

CCKW353 478714 B2

Can anyone identify this truck for me?

It was originally built as a LWB cargo with winch and Banjo type axles

This would have been the correct platform designated to construct a field modified 335...so it fits the application.

The 335 kit was a field kit to strip a Chevy 525 fire truck and put the fire body and pump equipment on a CCKW. Allowing the potential to haul more water and equipment.

I can not confirm that they would have definately chosen the same chassis spec to do a Model 530 Fire truck but it is likely

There is olive drab paint under 2 layers of red.

How do I read the 478714 number to find out the original year?

Is this the Army number that would have been stencilled on the vehicle?

You can send him a PM
My guess is.... late '44 to early'45

Hi Neil,
Congrats on the CCKW! Glad it's turning out even better than you expected. :D :D

As far as the date from your serial number, Brian "NWMV" CCKW353's serial number is 470202 with a DOD of 3/45. Therefore your vehicle will probably be somewhere in March or April '45 I would suspect.

You'll enjoy lots of fun with your CCKW but take the advice of these guys and really go over it thoroughly mechanically before driving it very much. Especially the brakes...unable to stop a 12000 lb truck is a sure way to raise your adrenalin!
Enjoy!

Very close to my CCKW # 488311 that would be about the same time period late 1944 to mid 1945. The best you can hope for is to put your CCKW in the correct range of Hood numbers I still hoping they can give me an idea on mine .

So that would mean it should be a 6th series with a 270 engine?
