Transfercase mounting bolts

Post by dr deuce »

I saw a suggestion that xfer case bolts be 'tack welded' in place after being torqued to prevent them from backing out.

I have seen them back out and even fall out and various methods of preventing them from backing out.

I suppose the best is using aircraft bolts (or drilling the existing bolts) and wiring them. I have plates on my cargo truck kind of like what you have on the flywheel bolts with bend up tabs that mount under 2 bolts at a time so they cannot turn.

The original ( as built ) transfer cases mounting bolts are safety wired for that reason.
If you no longer have original bolts to use exact replacements can be obtained thru McMaster-Carr.
Hope this helps
