Bridge Plates

Post by Hammerhead »

Hey guys,
I've got a '44 CCKW 353 in the standard cargo truck configuration. What would be the correct "bridge plate" to put on the front grille. I've seen numerous numbers and wondered which would be the most accurate. I've already got my canvas water bucket! :D Thanks for any help.

My 45 CCKW 353 is a Norway return ,it came with an " 8 " on the bridge plate ( for 8 tons )
The bar and bolts that hold it on are pretty crude and the plate itself looks to be the bottom of some kind of can or tin, approx 8 inches in dia.,also there are brush strokes visible on the yellow paint. :)

Hope this helps

I thought I had read somewhere that they did use a #10 food can lid for making those disks at the local unit level at some point I may be wrong .

Bridge Plate

Post by Capt Lee P »

Hi,

This number is more than the weight of the vehicle empty and/or loaded.
If you pull a trailer (like a Ben Hur), the formula takes into account what the gross weight of the trailer is in addition to the truck's weight.

I pull a Ben Hur with my B2 353 and use a Bridge Plate markings of "10/7." Army Motors had an article on the Bridge Plate markings a few years ago.
