Cargo bed Data Plate

Post by snow man »

I have a all steal cargo bed 353 , is the data plate located " front of bed drivers side " and are there more than one plate on this type bed ? If someone has a picture they can post of this plate because mine has been sandblasted some time or other and is very faint .

Bed Data Plate

Post by Cat Man »

Hi Snow Man,

Yes, the all steel body has one data plate on the left front corner. My camara just refused to photo it. Says Disk Error - Oh NO!!!

The tags are always faint from weather. And they were not very deep anyway. The tag is the size of a business card. Four rivets in the corners

The data tag reads:

FOR PARTS REQUISITION
BODY MODEL NO. 08395-Z
80 X 144
MANUFACTURED BY
EDW. G. BUDD MFG CO
PHILADELPHIA - DETROIT
DELIVERY DATE _________________

Hope that helps

Thanks Cat Man , i was in the process of getting a new plate and the vendor said there could be two :? on the bed . The plate you describe is the one i have the only deference is mine is attached with small Philips head screws . Is yours similar to a "pop rivet " or a solid head brad ?

Cargo Bed data plate

Interesting thread. Here are two photo's of the tag on an all steel 1950's replacement bed made in Europe. German??

One tag only. No extra holes, same size and location as on my early all steel US built bed.

They were at the right front side, at the drivers side. They looked exactly like the plates I saw on an original wooden bed of a AFKWX a while ago, so I think they were genuine. Those plates also were at that position, and there also were two, with the same kind of information per plate as the ones pictured here.

This is the truck they were on:

Unfortunately I didnt get to speak with the owner, so I dont know anything more about it.

I photographed it because I rarely see such a neat set of original data plates on a cargo bed, and I look at many.

Bed data plate

Post by Colin Britton »

Do you have the data plates for a late war composate bet 353?
As my bed data plates are missing also, but they did put the screws back after they removed the plates. Which was nice of them.

Doc Britton.
