CCKW "Rag Top" Cabs

Post by James G. Davis »

Hello,

Some questions. When did GMC start building the CCKW "Rag Top' cab? Did they stop building the hard metal cab at the same time?

When did GMC build cab and chassis "CCKW 353 283281 G2? Who built and installed the water tank unit?

Thanks,
Jim Davis, Maui, Hawaii

Your truck was built October 1943 begining with ser #282014 - 291779 yours looks to be first weeks production 1267 trucks in. As for closed cabs vs open cabs according to Bruce Sunderland closed cabs passed into history sometime in late april or early may 1943. All trucks after ser #213651 were open cabs from then untill the end of production, As for your water tank unit I have no information on that perhaps another reader can help :!:

Many thanks for the info.
You may interested to know that at least one of the 1200+ units survives, beautifuilly restored and fully operational in the Netherlands. Wonder if there are more?
