Wooden steering wheels???

Post by bobc »

Of the 4 CCKW's I just bought 2 of them have wooden steering wheels, they are both 43 closed cabs, did they come with these or did some one add them,I've been told that only DUWKs had them, but I'm not sure, hopefully some one knows for sure. I'm still trying to figure out what parts I'm going to use to assemble my open cab.

Yes, the wooden steering wheels are correct and, if in good shape, really hard to find. When I went to my first meet with my '43 shop truck, more people wanted to talk about the steering wheel than the rest of the truck!

Wood wheels

Post by Gordon_M »

I had a DUKW with a plastic wheel that was past it, and bought a wooden wheel to replace it.

I originally thought that the wooden wheel was only found on early vehicles, but it turns out wood only appears on the very late ones.
