Nope, mine is right there in the floor. I guess I was lucky it is still there. Now those would be easy to reproduce , if the demand were high enough so as to make a sizable production run.

Can you back your statement with facts, as I am looking forward to buying some more Inspection Plugs. I am saving some NOS for future sales So far, the repro efforts mentioned earlier this past year have not materialized. I kind of doubt that there is a market to support the cost of producing a quality Inspection Plug.

I don't need to back my statement with facts. I qualified my statement with the statement if there were a market big enough to make them. Now if you are the first to buy one all I need is another 1000 or so and it could be profitable to reproduice. This would be a simple stamped item. They are stamping out reproduction tail gates , mud flaps and stake holders for CCKW's so why not brake inspection covers?

Just to be clear are we talking about the 3 1/2" disc which goes in the floor pan? I have one but it's seen better days.looking at it I can get some made if mine is indeed original and not a post war euro copy. they would be easy to make,in fact my friend who runs the local metal shop could make them,he has made other CCKW parts for me using damaged originals and it's impossible to tell real from repro.

Can any of you guys post a picture of your floor plugs? this would help confirm that my one is correct.

I know of the following limited production repro parts (have them)

Seat riser assy for open cab

Glove box compartments for cc deuces and chevys

A friend of mine who worked in a sheetmetal shop
made them. It was not too difficult with CAD and
CNC machines. He also made .50 cal and .30 cal
repro MGs which he has for sale. The glovebox
went thru many revisions as nothing in there is square

I have some NOS Spares that I could spare a pic of. Be interesting to see what it would cost. They have a unique shape to lower portion where they clamp to the floor. I have not seen any variations on trucks returned from overseas, that is, those that still have the plug.
There is nothing made in the automotive line of "Cap Plugs" that are large enough, and as I mentioned the clamping method is unique. Cap Plug product line stops at around 1 1/2" hole size, and does not use the same clamping method. They are painted OD. I have a customer wanting 6 or 8 of them.

floor pan plugs

Post by oldreliable9_47 »

Did we ever figure out if these can be reproduced or would anyone have an original plug to sell? I'm in the need for one.

Thanks

Same old same old. A lot of talk but little action. My truck has a real good one in it with all the little ears intact. Maybe someday someone will reproduce them as more interest is shown in the CCKW. Just keep in mind, interest in restoration and show of the CCKW has not been too great until lately and partially because so many good trucks have come back from Europe. lkPretty much what whe have had to restore here was really worn out and neglected. One had to almost have to have a parts truck to make one out of two. Now, maybe some of these old beauties will get back on the road again because of the interest in them. :D

Were the cab securing bolt holes covered or just open ? if covered was it the same style as the brake fluid inspection cover ?

Bit of an update to this thread, as there has been no replies about postings of pictures of the original type floor plugs, I have searched elsewhere now and have managed to get hold of one. It is currently at an engineering company being copied with the view to making a production run of 20 to 30 of them depending on demand, also will be doing the same type plug but to fit the smaller cab securing holes in the floor of open cabs.
Stay tuned as soon as I get a test run I will post some pics.
