Dump Truck Frames

Were there any differences on the frames of Chevrolet dump trucks? Or was the hoist and body a bolt-on unit to a standard chassis? Thanks

My understanding is that they were essentially the same frame, except that the dump model had overload springs, which required additional overload brackets on theoutside of the frame. Original dump trucks had these riveted to the frame, but the brackets were also available separately. I have seen them bolted on to the frames of some trucks. Not sure if this was done while in military service, or after being surplussed...

It is basically a bolt-on installation.

Check out the pictures below of my early version dump truck.
The overload springs are clearly visible.

From what I've fond in the parts manuals, the trucks having overloads from the factory were the dump tracks and the Truck Chassis (Tractor with 5th Wheel). The overload springs and brackets were also available separately, and would conceivably been for converting a standard cargo truck chassis into either a dump truck or a tractor truck.

hi guys my uncle and I are restoring an early dump model but don't have a vin number. we talked to vehicles of victory and got a sample vin so we know what it should look like but we r trying to find out which GM production plant produced the dump models so we can put the correct number in the vin. if u could help with this info we would really appreciate it.
