The blue truck (someone posted an image on here a week or two back) needed to keep the four-speed original transmission and Chev transfer case, as the original telephone truck body had the huge rear winch in it that was chain driven from that driveline, so swapping for the much larger / heavier / longer five speed not really an option.

edit - it wasn't on here - is was on the HMVF Forum, you can se about half of it on page 3 of this Pacific thread;

Gordon:

I have a telco auger truck and the distance from the 4sp to the xfer is much greater (as are all chevys) than the CCKW. You could put a 5sp in and it would still operate the xfer OK.

You still have the floor issue... :?

KEVINABR. Thanks for posting pictures of your
truck. I had a drive shaft that had twisted
in the back axle of my GMC also. I used
to haul water with this truck but not any more!
Good luck with your project!

Heres my truck being loaded during War and Peace Revival, with a crated jeep load.
Loading her is Mick Wilson in his Brockway with Quickway crane.

I noticed that this truck has the same front bumper as the C.C.K.W. Why is that? I have had several Chevy's and not one of them had this 'shorter in height' bumper on them. I don't know too much about the G-7103 tractor, so was this a common installation specifically for this truck?

I believe this vehicle was involved in and accident some time as the rear frame had been cut and repaired and the front bumper was changed also .... maybe taken from a cckw
