I have my Chevy G7107

Post by m38cdnbill »

Hello All,

I'm back at home after a rescue of more 23 hours non stop. We left Cabano (Quebec) last saturday, we are crossed by the New-Brunswick and we went to Machias in the South of Maine. The temperature was terrible and roads were covered with snow and ice on all the length.

Yesterday, I began the restoration and I removed the cargo bed to make the first mechanical checks. So, my first reaction, this truck is in very good shape for it's age and the cargo bed needs to replace all wood of floor... not a big trouble.

The cab needs some body works but nothing too hard to do. The engine is very good but needs to rebuilt the carburator and replace the distributor and generator. The previous owner replace the original 6 volts devices by 12 volts. The radiator is not original and needs to be replace by an original one. The base of the grill is not original and I will need some pictures of this parts to make the modifications. The frame is in very good shape and the bumperettes are still there. However, the spare tire bracket has ben cut.

The cat eyes, black-out lights and guard are not there but I beleive that I have this parts in stock.

So, I'm very satisfied and enthousiast to begin it's restoration and you'll find below the first two pictures of my Chevy G7107. Others pictures are coming soon. A special thanks to John Cliche to have put me on the track of this lorry and hope to have the chance to take soon the glass of the friendship with you John.

Bye

Guy

Looks like a nice solid truck. :)

The cracks in the front fenders just outboard of the grill are quite common with the Chevys. They do not have the reinforcing plate under that the CCKW fenders have. Of course, that plate on the CCKW tends to rot out the front fenders after all these years.

Good lick and keep us posted!

nice looking ride. Welcome to the Chevy club!

I like the video. Snap shots (stills) are nice, but seeing and hearing one of these old warriors moving and driving in a video clip is just plain cool.

There is a neat video somewhere on U-tube of a European MV club showing lots of WW2 2.5 ton trucks moving in convoy. The sounds of those engines and gearcases is just plain awesome to the ear!
