Clutch

Post by KEVINABR »

Hi all simple question
What is the difference if any between a clutch in a Gmc G508 270 and a Chevy G506 with an original 235 engine and four speed ??
If they are not the same any ideas where a clutch for a Chevy can be sourced.
thanks

The clutch for the Chev is easy to find. A good auto parts store can probably get you one. If not, Jim Carter antique truck parts.

The GMC, that is a problem. It is a special explosion proof looking clutch that is made for a recessed flywheel. That is why you have to be really careful with the GMC clutch adjustment; make the clutch disengages about 1" off of the floor. FORGET the free play. You will have lots when new, and none when the disk is worn out.

On a slightly different, though related note: Can anyone with a good speed shop find out if you can buy a flywheel the same diameter as the GMC without the mounting holes (4 of them on a CCKW) drilled out. If such an animal could be found, you could install a Corvette clutch like I have on my CCKWs with the GMC 302 cid engines.
