Hello All.Has anyone fitted or had experience with running a 270 unit with an after market electronic ignition set up :?: I seem to be going thru condensers like candy at Christmas,as it seems the quality of these now is very suspect,It seems the fitting of a electronic system is the answer to all prayers, according to the people SELLING them, however,I would imagine  that one of you must know someone thats either tried one , chucked one in a bin or is Happy :D with the one that they have. Please any feed back on good ones, bad ones, where to get one,who to speak to,Will be a real help........Happy Motoring..........Regards Erb

haven't tried the units myself ...but had contact with someone in England that sells them ... they looked ok but was just trying to see if anyone had fitted them and how they went. The English supplier produces them for most MV's

Hi, I fitted one a few years ago and have had no problems, it came with an improved coil for greater spark, fitted the whole think in about 15mins, it definitely improved the reliability and confidence in starting the truck. I should say that I have since thought about returning it to stock, not because it has failed but I like the thought of it starting as it was design to do, and back when I fitted the electronic ignition I did not have the experience I do now, the truck runs on 6volts. Can take some pics of it if that helps. Hope this helps James

Not a 270 but I installed a Pertronix electronic ignition in my 6X6 Dodge Weapons Carrier a couple of years ago. The vehicle electrics are still the original 6 volt and it is all working very well.

Hi All.I think that I have settled on getting a Petronix system, having looked and listened to many opinions on what may be best. I will let you all know when its installed.I just hope that the time and expense are worth it,but ALL systems even the original,(that I have tried and tried to live with for years) have disadvantages, its a case of it cannot be any worse than it is now and it might even be a bit better ,and thats got to help...I just never can be certain how long going to take to start and I think all the mates that help me out are getting fed up of having another lame duck, and far to many hours at events and meetings are spend with my head under the bonnet, changing all the bits that you only replaced an hour ago :x and not in the bar :? P.S.PLEASE can some one confirm that the dizzie rotates clockwise its difficult to rig up enough mirrors :!: to see it turning from behind the wheel.(unless some one has a plan on how to )........ Begrussen Kamerads.......Erb

Thanks to every one that helped. I have fitted the Petronix system with one of their coils. it is brilliant, :D starts better :D ,runs better :D ,pulls better :D .......... I thought it was good before (except starting) :x .I really wish that I had done it last year It would have saved so many wasted hours changing condensers points and plugs.ANY one thinking about fitting one, my tip  / DO IT ..........

Hello. If you contact George 01544 260 110. He is invaluable in helping you order the correct Fitting kit ,coil and rotor arm, It depends on your system voltage and the type of distributor fitted to your truck. You will need the number that is on your dizzy, probably an A.C. DELCO type but get the correct number thats on the casing. Is your TRUCK the original 6 volt? OR converted to 12 ? George will need to know as the new ignition takes a direct feed from your ignition circuit L.T. side, so he will have to know the ignition circuit supply voltage TO  the coil (I have seen some conversions to 12volt starting but Retaining 6 volt for everything else). I am sure you will be pleased with the service.......and even more pleased when you have fitted the definite upgrade, and it still looks original except for one small extra wire from the coil to the dizzie. If you are happy to try with your existing coil then do so, Im sure it will work if your coil is good, its if you want to spend the extra £s :( on a matched one . I did because I wasn't sure of the condition of the existing modern type coil that I had fitted (to replace the ORIGINAL one that I had used for years ) when I was trying everything to try to improve the starting! (My 353 is all 6 volt) But good luck, Im sure you will be pleased (there is a guarantee with these systems but talk it ALL over with George and make sure you are happy with every thing before you buy. Regards
