Hydrovac Installation Question

Hello,

Been working on the brake system on my 353. Have been slowly working my way from the wheel cylinders to the master cylinder.

I am now at the Hydrovac unit. It looks like the original Hydrovac has been replaced by a Series 3 unit. I can see what appears to be the brackets for the original unit, along with some adapter brackets that have been cobbled up to hold the new one.

One thing that looks strange to me is that the bleeder screws are facing straight down. I'm thinking that this Hydrovac has been installed upside down? It seems like it would be pretty hard to successfully bleed the system in this configuration.

Does anyone have a document, pics or TM reference on how this unit should be mounted? I'm thinking about either purchasing (if I knew what to purchase) the correct bracket(s) or possibly fabricating a new bracket as the one that is on there does not look very sturdy.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thx for the link, very helpful. The first pic in the upper left corner shows what appears to be a 3rd series unit. There is a good view of the rear adapter bracket. The bleeder on the control valve can be seen pointing up.

Do you have a picture showing your Hydrovac installed in your vehicle? I looked through some of your other links but I could not find one.

This one is what I was looking for. My suspicions are doubly confirmed. My unit is upside down. Maybe the person who installed it thought that air is heavier than brake fluid..

Does anyone know if CCKWs were converted to third series while still in possession of the Army ? If so, there must be a document out there somewhere that contains installation information....

BTW, Fernando, is the rear bracket missing on yours? Or, is that the way it is supposed to mount? The photo in the link provided by rikgerards shows a bracket that connects to the stud on the back of the Hydrovac...

This is another hydrovac model ? pic I have.Yes,my rear bracket was only adapted.My hydrovac is a BENDIX nº 2252103 with depression valve nº 2252132.Use only solid vaseline inside it.My check valve gasket was burned,check it!!
