Early stop and tail lights CCKW
Looking through my Ord 9 SNL G-508 book and I have come across the early type rear lights, two oval lenses above each other going by the pics, as fitted to vehicles prior to chassis No.41189, as the chassis No on my CCKW352 is before this number does this mean I should have the early stop and tail lights ?
Tell me more about these never even seen them in real life !!!!

Re: Early stop and tail lights CCKW
They show up on E-Pay for BIG money from time to time...you can find them at shows as well
I've seen them for as little as $45.US and as much as $ 300. US (each )
Early 1/2 ton Dodges ( 1st production ) would have had them and the VCs as well ( I think ), Scout cars and early 1/2 tracks also
They are unique units... the bulbs are unique as are the tail light pig tails
Joe Hall at Vintage Wireing of Maine did have some avail. as did Brian Asbury, and I believe Tom Woldbolt might know of some.Jaap is another possibility.
They for sure would stimulate conversations if you had a set on your CCKW...and they would be correct also.
Hope this helps

Would the early truck lights have operated the same as the later ones such being different on each side and the black out tail and stop ect..

Early trucks had the 3 position HL switch, not the 4 position HL switch.

Would the lighting switch be a rotary one or push / pull type ?

Re: Early stop and tail lights CCKW
Bit of an update to this thread, in me messing around with the truck the other day it struck me to find out how many positions the head light switch has.... well it would appear that I do have an early truck as the push pull switch is only 3 position, all the way in, first click out to the stop button, press stop button and pull out another click, then all the way out final click. So I suppose this means I need those rare and expensive rear lights and an early wiring loom..

Re: Early stop and tail lights CCKW
If you have 2 positions AFTER the lock position, you have the later switch.
The early switch is:
All off
BO lights
(after pushing the button)
stop light enabled, head lights and tail lights on all the time

Re: Early stop and tail lights CCKW
Ah yes I see that now oh well never mind, probably came with the cab as its an early truck 352 with small filler neck tank, it has an open cab which I believe was a more liked cab by the troops, has a European rebuild plate on the dash indicating it was rebuilt in 51 which shows the USA bonnet number and the chassis number which is more lightly to be when the cab was swapped from the original closed cab.
