Need throw out bearing number....UPDATED!

Post by Bill_Wolf »

I thought I had a source for the TOB on my CCKW.

GMC PN is 2140122. The part number is no longer in the GM system. Checked with Frank and Army Cars with no success. GMC Medium duty dealer looking at parts book gave me PN 909422. Which is the same as listed for a Chevy pre 50.

The part arrived and it is 3/8 of an inch taller than the one that came out.

FYI...the truck was rebuilt once in the states and then again at least once in Norway where the clutch was replaced. I know this because the design of the disk is different and the pilot bearing has Sweden on it.

Anyone know a source for a CCKW TOB, and/or the part number. Would also like to know the correct height of the whole bearing. A cross reference would be a big help.

Thanks,

Bill

TOB on the right is the original...on the left is 909422 genuine GM New Departure.

UPDATE:

At work today I used google on a different computer and got different results. Strange?

Put in the OE GM number and came up with a website that supplies to DOD. Cross reference material was available and shows a modern bearing with a PN of CT22EX1968RV as being the same as 2140122.

The local parts store was able to cross that number to N1741 and N1741SA.

They have the bearing available through special order.

I also found a source for one last 2140122. I ordered the original. Arrival should be in a couple of days I will let all know.

The part ordered under the original number arrived today and it is the same dimensions as the part that was removed.

For future reference the numbers stamped on the release fork side of the bearing are:

Aetna Bearing Company
A-2765
US PAT. NO.2403460
MADE IN USA

NOTE: The crossover information in this part of the thread may be inaccurate. Check farther down the post before ordering parts. July 6, 2012

Google indicates that this part can be cross referenced to other manufacturers. The cross number is 1697C and is available from many other manufacturers (BCA, Federal Mogul) and supplied by companies including Amazon, Advance Auto parts, and others at prices ranging from $25 to $120 USD.

You should not have a problem finding a TOB.

The throw out bearing I just took out of my CCKW is the shorter one as picture above. The new one I ordered using the numbers above is the taller one. Can I use the taller one? The previous posts are not clear to me. Thank you in advance. Paul

Somewhere on the net, I downloaded a Timken bearing interchange guide (395 pages of interchange number, and searchable!!).

The timken equivalents are:

GM 2140122 = Timken 1377c
GM 909422 = Timken 614037 (this is the same bearing listed for my Chevy G506)

I have had great luck buying Timken bearings based on this interchange guide here:

http://www.jbr17llc.com/index.html

In fact they list both of the timken bearings listed above...

I hope this helps someone!

The longer bearing in the above picture IS CORRECT for the GMC 270 engine as used in the CCW, CCKW and DUKW. The shorter bearing at the right is correct for Chev cars and trucks of the 40's with the 216, 228 and 235 engines...including the G-506 trucks.
