The ONE bolt that is different

One of the beauties of the GMC and Chevrolet engines is that all the bolts except one are into blind holes: The holes are not drilled into the water jacket like the Jeep and many/most other flat head engines. If you work on both, you gain a GREAT appreciation of the GMC/Chevrolet engines.

Can anyone guess which one bolt goes into the waterjacket? No it is not a drain plug, it is a bolt that holds someting onto the engine...

Not me. I probably really never thought about it if I removed the bolt for any reason. I am looking forward to the answer.

Are we ready for the answer......

Drum roll....

It is the pivot for the bellcrank on the pedal linkage. Something you would never replace in normal usage. I had one engine (in the truck) where this was broken off. Go figure that one out.

I have another one to do. I bought a 302 from a Low Cab Forward 54 GMC truck and they had this adapter on the intake manifold for the linkage because of the semi-COE type of truck. It has a bolt in the pivot hole...

I have the 838420 Stud, control lever and 838421 Pins for anchoring the two springs. I've been at this for a long time, and I hate to be "up the creek" for parts. I studied the ORD 9 parts manuals on all of the vehicles for their unique parts, and had good friends in the trade that did not mind digging these little jewels out for me. Many places were just "too busy" to hunt for the stuff, but doing business is a two way street,and when they needed favors, they started producing. Most of the old dealers are gone now, but I have a couple left that still turn up nice things to send me. The Pins are driven in and have flutes on them that make it near impossible to remove.

Awwww Shucks, I am overwhelmed, :wink: but it doesn't take much to learn army trucks, you just gotta buy a manual, and spend a few cents to stock up exclusively on rare parts. It also helps to have the free training the Old Army gave me. The "atta boys" ain't what has kept me going it's the rare customer that actually fixes his CCKW or Jeep and buys a part or two. This is a fun hobby, and it will be fun retireing from it, as some unsuspecting friend just might get a call someday soon to come in and haul off my entire inventory free of charge.

True Business friends are rare, and treat you as their equal, you can turn your back on them without concern of them trying to undermine your business and sneak a customer or two away. I have nearly 60 years of contacts established by my family or myself, and many of them have offered fair and balanced deals on merchandise. There are some who have gone out of their way to ensure that doing business is a two way street. I have a lot of unique items, and some not so unique. My idea is to make a clean exit and get my inventory off my property as quick as possible. What better incentive is there than to give a friend a break and reward their friendship by giving them a sure shot at a profit. My idea of retirement is to have my collection under one roof with no clutter, and just go out to my shop, dust my vehicles off and just daydream.
