Does anyone know if there is asbestos insulation in the walls of a WW2 CCKW shopvan body?

And a 2nd question: What would the DRMO etc do if they discovered that an item they were disposing of had asbestos in it?

I think you already are familiar with the answer, remember when they were removing the gauges from M-Series trucks a few years ago (Radium content) They will pull and isolate the item from the sale if they are competant.

Remember the Surplus Jeep Engines overseas, the Asbestos Head Gaskets were removed before shipping.

Everything out there is a boogyman. Think of all of the GI's of WWII that were exposed to asbestos and are in their 80's and 90's now.

Some are not affected, it must be a gene thing, I worked with asbestos flakes in our lab for 3 years about 35 years ago, my best friend has been installing heating plants for 45 years, and was doing it when they wrapped pipes in asbestos, Cyril Morrison at Morrisons Brake Service, ground brake shoes for 55 years, and died at 90. He is the one I previously mentioned that helped develop Hydrovacs, and Air Craft Disc Brakes in the 30s. I do have Navy friends with lung probs from Asbestos.

I agree with you Joel, I do believe it is a genetic thing. I grew up on a cotton farm and was exposed to massive amounts of DDT, Toxophene and Methyl Parathion with few problems, but I know of a lot of cotton farmers that have died of cancer caused from over exposure from these insecticides over the years.
